Start with the official Tasmanian Open website and its ticket information page. Parts of the site still describe 2026: the published seating prices, guest performers and session times should not be treated as confirmed arrangements for 2027.

Plan the Launceston journey around your dancing

For mainland competitors, the travel plan is a substantial part of preparing for TasOpen. Work backwards from when you need to be ready to dance, allowing for the journey, accommodation check-in, unpacking costumes and a normal meal. An arrival buffer is useful even when a same-day flight appears possible. Avoid tying your first-round preparation to an airport arrival with no room for disruption.

The organiser's venue guide places the Silverdome off Oakden Road in Prospect, within the Kate Reed Reserve area. When comparing accommodation, check the journey to the actual venue rather than simply choosing a property described as being in Launceston. Decide how both partners will travel to and from the venue with garment bags, shoes and any family members.

Keep the items you cannot easily replace together: shoes, a basic costume kit, medication you normally carry and your entry details. Check your airline's baggage conditions before deciding what can travel in your cabin bag. Photograph the contents of shared luggage so you and your partner know who has packed each essential item.

Use the gap before entries open productively

You can make useful progress before May without guessing the syllabus. Discuss the intended age division, level and dance styles with your teacher; make a provisional travel budget; and decide which training milestones matter most. Once the 2027 entry documents appear, check those choices against the actual events offered and the applicable rules.

A good entry review has two people checking the same information: names, registration details, division, event selections and payment. Save the confirmation somewhere both partners can find. For a studio group, maintain one shared list of competitors and accompanying spectators so an entry booking is not confused with a spectator-seat booking.

Then make the final preparation specific to the programme. If your events are separated by a long break, plan a second warm-up rather than staying in competition shoes all day. If several styles sit close together, rehearse the costume and shoe changes with the same bag arrangement you will use at the venue.

Prepare shoes and costumes before packing day

A trip across Bass Strait is an awkward moment to discover that a buckle, fastening or heel tip needs attention. Try the full competition outfit in practice while there is still time to solve a problem. Use your usual socks or hosiery and check that the shoes remain secure through movement, not just while standing still.
