Make the hotel work for your competition day

Sofitel Melbourne on Collins lists its address as 25 Collins Street, Melbourne. Compare the whole journey when choosing where to stay: the route to the venue with dance bags, the time you need to get ready and your plans after your final event.

Staying at the competition venue may simplify some of those movements, but a room booking is separate from admission to the championship. Ask the hotel about check-in, check-out and luggage storage for the rate you are considering. Do not assume your room will be available early enough for competition preparation, or that you can keep it until your last round.

If you stay elsewhere, write down where you will change and what you need to carry. Ask the organiser about competitor facilities once event information is available. In either case, keep everyday shoes and a warm outer layer accessible for the journey between the street and the ballroom.

Use the 2026 results to learn, without predicting 2027

Historical results can give you a useful starting point for a conversation with your coach. Review your own performance notes alongside the events you danced, then choose what deserves attention in your next training block. A clear aim might be maintaining the same quality through a full round or recovering your focus after an interruption.

The results do not tell you which events will run next year, who will enter or how many rounds you will dance. Keep training goals separate from those unknowns. This is particularly helpful when deciding whether to expand into another style: the decision should suit your preparation, partnership and coach's advice.

From the entry form to a workable personal schedule

When the 2027 syllabus is released, create a compact event sheet containing your event names, eligibility checks, payment status and any questions for the organiser. A 2027 DSA entry-system page is already listed; a page being present does not establish that entries are fully open.

Once an official running order is available, highlight every event affecting your party. Include your partner's entries and any students or children you are supporting. Then check whether your planned hair, makeup, meals and costume changes are realistic around those commitments.

Avoid assigning an exact departure time from an old programme. Leave enough flexibility for the current day's instructions and your actual progress through the rounds. Supporters should have a copy of the plan too, so they know when you need quiet preparation and when you are available.

Check your equipment during practice

Make shoe and costume checks part of a normal rehearsal several weeks before competing. Use the same socks or hosiery, fasten shoes as you would on the day, and test the movements you will actually dance.
