Kiwi Classic Dance Championships — 2026 Reference & Competitor Guide

The Kiwi Classic is a hotel-ballroom event with daytime and evening sessions and a wide range of disciplines. Its own council rules and seating arrangements deserve checking before you build an entry list.

Past edition reference. The 2026 edition has passed. This guide preserves the published competitor information as a reference. Dates, prices and rules must be checked again for the next edition.

2026 venue and sessions

Grand Millennium Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, 71 Mayoral Drive, Auckland. The main competition pack covered 18–19 April: day doors 8:15am, first event 9am; evening doors 6:30pm, first event 7pm. The wider event weekend began 17 April.

Entries and seating

Entries closed 29 March. Fees were per event number, not per dancer: general listed events $20; ProAm/AmAm single and multi-dance categories had separate prices. Competitors also needed seat tickets; dancing professionals had free venue entry. Adult theatre-style day seating was NZD $30, evening $45 or day/evening $70.

Rules that change preparation

DanceSport and ProAm followed NZBDC rules. Graded partners could not also enter solo or duo events. Ladies needed heel protectors. Major finals were scheduled in the evening; do not infer that a daytime entry finishes your day.

Your preparation checklist

Match every entered event to a day and session before buying seats or booking your return journey. Discuss eligibility before mixing graded, solo and coached categories. For a hotel competition, a room booking does not replace event admission; keep the two confirmations separate and check where ticket collection occurs.

Check the shoes you already train in before deciding whether anything needs replacing. Use our fit and sizing guide and shoe-care and heel-protector guide. Trial changes during practice, with enough time to resolve fit issues before competing.
