Entries and admission: check both
Start with the DSA competition list for current entry status. Existing competitors can use the Evolution entry portal to access their entry details. Keep your confirmation and payment records accessible, and resolve any discrepancy with the organiser before travelling.
For admission, follow the official ticket page. DSA provides a separate spectator-ticket portal; its guidance says required competitor tickets are issued through the entry process. Check what your own booking includes, and arrange admission for accompanying family or supporters separately. Ticket availability can change.
Read the syllabus for your exact event
The 2026 syllabus and entry conditions cover Standard, Latin and New Vogue, with age and grade divisions, solo events, recreational events and coached partnerships. Use the actual event row with your teacher: the dance list and format vary between divisions.
The published conditions allow small fields to be combined or cancelled. They also set restrictions for coached partnerships and specify open choreography for certain solo divisions. The PDF describes the one-age-category restriction as applying to graded events, while the webpage uses broader wording. If that affects your entry, ask the organiser to clarify rather than interpreting it yourself. Review the stated admission and entry refund conditions before purchasing.
For preparation, write down the dances for each entered event and check any bracketed dances with your coach. The syllabus explains that bracketed dances are introduced from the semi-finals. A syllabus tells you what you dance; it does not replace the final running order.
Plan your arrival at Union Hall
Use the full venue name when organising your journey, and confirm the correct campus entrance, parking arrangements and walking route to Union Hall before leaving. Build in time for unloading, finding the hall, checking in, changing and warming up. If you need step-free access or have a specific access requirement, ask the organiser for venue guidance in advance.
Do not build your arrival around a previous year’s timetable. Check for the current running order and any last-minute organiser notices. Once on site, locate the marshalling area and listen for announcements; your own event timing matters more than a general estimate of the day.
Your final-week preparation checklist
- Confirm the paperwork: check partner details, event selections, payment records and the admission arrangements for everyone attending.
- Rehearse the practical details: run your warm-up, costume changes and competition rounds with the shoes you intend to wear.
- Inspect your shoes: check heel tips, fastenings, stitching and soles. Test any replacement heel protectors during practice, and confirm organiser requirements.
- Pack a small repair kit: include appropriate spare laces or fastenings, costume essentials, a shoe brush and a familiar backup pair if you have one.
- Save the latest information: keep tickets and the current programme on your phone, with offline copies in case reception is poor.
- Agree the day’s plan: confirm travel, meeting points and marshalling responsibilities with your partner, coach or parent.
For shoe checks, use our dance shoe fit and sizing guide and suede-sole and heel-protector care guide. A familiar, secure pair is a better competition choice than an untested last-minute change. If you do need a replacement, contact Elite Dancer with your current model, size and event date so we can check suitability and availability. Allow time to test the fit; do not assume delivery before the event.
Use Evolution to sharpen the rest of your season
After competing, make a short note of what worked: warm-up timing, stamina, floorcraft, costume changes and shoe comfort. Choose a small number of specific adjustments with your coach while the experience is fresh.
If the Australian Championship is also on your calendar, check its separate entry and payment deadline now through our Australian DanceSport Championship guide. Competing at Evolution does not enter you into another event. Explore the Australian DanceSport competition hub for other event guides and planning links.
